About Kelsey Mikel

Kelsey was a junior at NorthWood High School when she died in an auto accident in August of 2004.  She was an honor student taking three AP classes as a junior, the business manager of NorthWood's yearbook, the Logue, and the manager of the cross country team.  Kelsey loved little children, and they returned the love to her.

Kelsey always had a kind smile and word for everyone.  Anyone who met her knew of her kind heart and love for others.

Kelsey's gift of organ donation offered life to four individuals.  Her gift of tissue donation helped improve life for countless others.

Kelsey's family remembers her with love in their hearts and smiles on their faces.

Organ Donation Information

The Mikel family continues to be active supporters of the Indiana Organ Procurement Organization.

Mark has been featured in a training video used nationally to help medical professionals speak to family members about the decision to donate organs.  In May 2007, Mark was the speaker at the statewide Organ Donor Memorial Service at the Scottish Rite Auditorium in Indianapolis.

In June 2006, the Mikels were Donor Family representatives for Team Indiana at the U.S. Transplant Games in Louisville.

When IOPO celebrated its 20th anniversary in September of 2007, Mark, Kathy, Emily, Mattie, and McKenna were given the opportunity to meet Audrey Babcock who had received one of Kelsey's kidney's.  Audrey and her parents, Adrian and Lisa, have continued to keep the Mikels up to date with Audrey's remarkable progress.

The Babcock and Mikel families continue to be involved in each other's life.  Adrian, Lisa, Audrey, Andrew, and Lindsay surprised the Mikels in June by coming to Mattie's graduation open house.
